WE GLOVE YOU!
Wing & Weft Gloves: Continuing the Legacy of American Glove Making
Our story begins with Glamour Gloves, founded by William LeBouvier, who learned the craft from his Uncle in the 1940s. As the last remaining fabric glove manufacturer in NYC, we've carried the torch of this timeless craft for generations.

Around 1973, Lacrasia Duchein and Jay Ruckel gained the business under William's guidance, learning his craft and ensuring its continuation. In the 80s, Lacrasia Gloves wanted to add leather glove designs and connected with the last glove maker in Manhattan, Louis Gelfand, who was near retirement.

Louis Gelfand drove Lacrasia to Gloversville, NY, and introduced her to Joseph Perrella, a master glove maker who became their mentor, passing on the intricate art of leather glove making. With the knowledge and inherited tools from Perrella Gloves, Lacrasia Gloves brought their expertise to the heart of New York City.
As the legacy unfolded, Katie Sue Nicklos, initially a customer of Lacrasia Gloves, joined the company and became an integral part of our journey.

In 2017, she established Wing & Weft as the fourth-generation descendant of this rich lineage. Our mission has always been to preserve and revitalize the craft of glove-making in the USA, particularly in NYC.

Throughout our history, we've had the honor of "GLOVing" everyone, from up-and-coming talents like Rupaul to iconic figures like Prince, Madonna, and all the First Ladies.
Katie Sue's path to glove-making was an unexpected one. Initially a theater enthusiast, she refused to learn to sew. It wasn't until college that she discovered her passion for costume design and sewing, eventually earning a Master's degree in the field.

Drawn to the allure of New York City, Katie Sue embarked on a journey to work "on or around" Broadway. Her career spanned over 15 years, constructing costumes for stage and screen while managing all aspects of the business.

When Lacrasia and Jay sought a successor for their company, Katie Sue emerged as the natural choice. She cherished the opportunity to continue their unique glove-making service in the iconic Garment District. Taking over from two masters of the trade was no easy feat, but Katie Sue was determined to prove her worthiness. She understood that Wing & Weft Gloves were not mere garments but works of art. To uphold the high standards set by her predecessors, she poured her heart and soul into every pair of gloves she created.
Today, after more than six years, Wing & Weft Gloves proudly carries on the legacy of craftsmanship while embracing modern advancements. We've adapted to the changing times by incorporating social media, modern ordering systems, and an updated inventory selection. This allows us to expand our reach and attract a diverse clientele, all while staying true to the time-honored art of glove making.

At Wing & Weft Gloves, we invite you to be part of our history. Join us in celebrating the artistry, tradition, and passion that go into each pair of gloves we create. Together, we continue the legacy of American glove making, honoring our past while embracing the future.

Katie Sue was asked to represent the factories of The Garment District in 2023 as a local planning committee member for New York Governor Kathy Hochul’s grant of $4.5 Milton through the state’s NY Forward program for neighborhood revitalization. Her insight was crucial to ensure that the funding considered the stakeholders who create the fashion that the Garment District is known for.

We will always be showing up to advocate for New York City’s rightful place as the fashion leader of the universe.
